Introducing RIVR Tech: A New Brand with Deep Roots

Back in 1940, a group of farmers saw how access to electricity would benefit their hometown—and decided to take matters into their own hands, pooling their own money to create Lumbee River Electric Membership Corporation.

We’ve been putting our communities first ever since, and today, we proudly serve more than 54,000 members in five counties. But that commitment to you goes beyond just electricity service. We want to see our service area—and our neighbors in them—thrive. So in 2014, we started a journey to bring fiber connectivity, the gold standard of high-speed internet, to our members.

After winning a grant to build the first leg of our fiber network and partnering with other providers to serve that first group of customers in rural Robeson County, we are bringing fiber internet and voice service back under the Lumbee River EMC roof.

Powered by Lumbee River EMC, RIVR Tech is a new brand focused on delivering fiber broadband and other technologies that make our home a better place to live and work. With a dual focus on innovation and community, our goal is to bring you the best fiber connection around, backed by friendly and reliable service from the Lumbee River EMC team you know and trust.

Our investment in fiber will help close the broadband gap for our rural neighbors who have historically been underserved by larger providers. On a broader scale, it has the potential to grow our local economy through remote work, improve quality of life for all by increasing access to online learning and higher quality entertainment, and even save our members money by enabling more efficient utility and energy usage.

Starting December 4, 2023, RIVR Tech service will begin for some rural regions of Robeson County, including Rennert, Union, Pembroke, Red Springs, and other nearby locations. In 2024, we will begin expanding our network to reach more of our rural neighbors in need of access to high-speed internet. Ready to get connected?
