Lumbee River EMC is taking back ownership of our fiber internet and voice services under the name RIVR Tech. We’re staffed by the same people you know and trust—and we’re delivering the essential connections our communities need to flourish.
Introducing RIVR Tech
RIVR Tech is the brand name for Lumbee River EMC’s internet, Wi-Fi, and voice services. In 2014, Lumbee River EMC won a grant to build a fiber network within its membership area. After partnering with other providers for years, we decided to take back ownership of our fiber internet and voice services as RIVR Tech.
We share staff, offices, and a mission to serve our communities—but while Lumbee River EMC is an electric co-op that serves our member-owners, RIVR Tech lives outside of that umbrella to deliver broadband and voice services to our members. What that means for you is the Lumbee River EMC team you know, and trust will also be providing you with fiber internet, voice, and the exceptional technical support and customer service you’ve counted on for years.
Taking care of you is our mission
Our story began in 1940, when a group of farmers pooled their money to bring electricity to their neighbors. Lumbee River Electric Membership Cooperative was born—and we’ve been dedicated to serving our communities ever since. Today, Lumbee River EMC is owned by more than 54,000 members in Cumberland, Hoke, Robeson, Moore, and Scotland counties, and our 81,000+ power poles span more than 5,900 miles.
But to us, being your local provider is about more than reliable service or affordable pricing; it’s about supporting the people who support us. Our employees coach little league teams and volunteer in the community. We award grants to local teachers; keep the lights on in rain, sleet, and snow; and adopt new technologies that help our local economy thrive. This philosophy is what drove us to look past electricity and build a state-of-the-art fiber network in 2014. Like our farmer forefathers, we saw the critical need for this new technology and refused to let our communities fall behind.
After partnering with other providers to deliver our fiber internet and voice services, we decided to bring them fully under our own roof as RIVR Tech in 2023. As we expand, we remain steadfastly devoted to our neighbors. Because it’s about more than business; it’s about looking out for this place we all call home.
